Growing Inflation Triggers Fear

It seems everywhere we look these days … Prices are rising – sometimes suddenly – but constantly rising.  It is a constant theme on TV to point out that incomes are NOT keeping up.  Inflation is a punishing “feature of the economy” — it clobbers those who are retired – usually on a fixed income (that does NOT increase when the cost of living increases) & it hammers the poor & working poor in a devastating way.

It is said Inflation in Canada for 2022 is currently 5.7 % but when I see items in the grocery store – like green apples which used to be 99 cents per pound … now at $2.50 per pound … I see THAT is a 150% increase!  One newscast today pointed out inflation this year may cost an “average family” an extra $5,000 this year.  This amount is likely less for retirees, but there is no source for “extra” thousands of dollars … the added costs must come out of the current tight budget –and often there is no extra money to cover this.

Fears about money are NOT new.  2000 years ago, Jesus had a LOT to say about this…

Luk 12:29  … do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind.
Luk 12:30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things.
Luk 12:31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
Luk 12:32 “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luk 12:33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.
Luk 12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

It has been said, the trouble with material wealth is that ordinarily you can’t have it, without TRUSTING it.  God seeks people who Trust Him, who are weaned from greed & selfishness & from the perishing things of this world.

Pro 19:17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.

As Christians (in a world of challenges), opportunities exist all around us to give of our time or resources to help and encourage those who are frightened & suffering & “going without”.  Jesus seeks those who care and who can “be a light”. It is awesome to reach out and Help others.  If this describes you, you might be interested in our article How to be Used of God.
