Our Teaching …

John 6:59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
John 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
John 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

When Jesus Christ taught, many of His teachings were difficult to accept. When you attend a service with us, you are bound to hear things that you’ve never heard before. You will probably find some of our teachings surprising. Why is this? Simply because we base our teachings on the Bible. The Bible can be difficult to understand. In order to truly understand what the Bible teaches, we use the following principles:

  • The Bible interprets the Bible;
  • Clear texts interpret difficult texts (not the other way around);
  • God revealed Himself over an extended period of history. Therefore, we must use the most recent revelation to interpret the older.

While we are confident that God has revealed His truth to us, we know that full truth comes over time. We, therefore, remain open to continuous learning. We welcome the opportunity to engage in public and open dialog about our teachings. If you’d like to dialog with us about one or more of our beliefs, please contact us.

Our History:

Burlington CGI began as a result of Pastor Murray Palmatier moving from Montreal to Burlington, where two other church leaders resided. Together, with their families, they comprised 12 members. On the strength of these 12 members, we were encouraged by several pastors to make the decision to launch a Burlington congregation.

The Burlington congregation of the Church of God International was established on February 23rd, 2013 and it has been growing steadily ever since.

Our Vision:

a dynamic, actively-serving congregational family
that worships God in spirit and in truth and
keeps the unity of the Spirit in the bond of
peace. (John 4:24, Eph 4:3)

Our Mission:

to work locally to preach the gospel to all nations and
to prepare God’s people for marriage to Jesus Christ. (Mark 16:15, Rev 19:7)

Our Guiding Principle:

we ought to know how to behave ourselves as
the house of God, which is the church of the
living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. (1 Tim 3:15)

Our Goals:

1. to be ready to receive and nourish new Christians and further develop
mature Christians. (1 Cor 3:1-2, Heb 5:14)
2. to provide a place where every believer feels safe and valued. (Gal 5:15-16)
3. to come to the unity of the faith. (Eph 4:13)
4. to become mature in the stature and knowledge of Jesus Christ. (Eph 4:13)
5. to have close ties with the rest of God’s church. (Eph 4:4)
6. to have Bible-based leadership and relationships. (1Tim 3:1-12, John 13:34-35)
7. to become a model Christian community. (1 Tim 4:12, Matt 5:14)

Attend a Service

Are you thinking of joining us for a service? You are most welcome! We realize it can be a bit intimidating to visit a new church for the first time, so we’ve created this page to give you an idea of what to expect. If you have additional questions, please feel free to write to [email protected]

Heritage

CGI Burlington has a rich heritage. As part of the Church of God, we are from a long line of believers who worship God in spirit and in truth. Consequently, our service is a blend of heartfelt praise and true doctrine. Should you choose to worship with us, you will hear the Bible expounded in insightful ways. It will come alive and it will make sense. You will have the sense that a great light has been turned on, and for the first time you are understanding the meaning and purpose of your life.

Upon Arrival

Our service begins with congregational hymns and an opening prayer. This is followed by a sermonette, and a Bible reading.

The Sermon

The next part of the service is the sermon where the scriptures are expounded in a thought-provoking way. We end with congregational hymns, and finally a closing prayer.

Time of Worship

We worship every Sabbath and brethren generally fellowship after the service has finished. Everyone is welcome. Please join us.
