Many times, I have dreamt about flying. I wish I could fly. Who wouldn’t want to glide or slice through thin air like a bird or aeroplane?
The day looms, and I wish it would be sooner rather than later, when the saints of God will be capable of flying and much more. We will no longer be composed of flesh and blood, but we’ll get a new body “spiritual body,” as 1 Cor. 15: tells us. It’s the time when we’ll be “born again,” after Jesus Christ returns to establish His everlasting kingdom.
Jesus says clearly, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). Millions of people believe they are now “born again,” hence if you are not “born again” you are not a true Christian. What did Jesus mean when He used the term born again?
Jesus’ reply to Nicodemus packs a lot of punch to the question about being born again. Nicodemus asked Him,” How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Clearly, Nicodemus was thinking of a physical birth – far from what the Messiah was saying. Here’s the proof for that. Jesus stated “Truly, truly, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit (or spiritual water), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5).
If Nicodemus needed further clarification of what it means to be born again, he had it coming from Jesus. If Christians, who claim to be born again now, could only grasp this clear explanation, they’d think twice about their belief. Verse 6, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
If you were “born of the flesh,” meaning you came into this world through the kind of birth Nicodemus had in mind, then you are flesh or composed of flesh. However, once you have been “born of the spirit,” the kind of birth necessary to “see,” or experience the Kingdom of God, then you are spirit.
Furthermore, Jesus went a step further to explain what it means to be born again. He made an interesting analogy that is hard to deny. It’s all from His mouth. “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit,” (Verse 7-8).
Jesus was saying those “born of the spirit,” or “born again” are like the wind i.e. they are invisible, powerful, and unlike mortal flesh and blood human beings. They are like the resurrected Christ (1 John 3:2), who was able to appear and disappear at will (John 20:19, 26). So, those who believe they are born again now, should compare their bodily composition to what Jesus described as one “born of the spirit.” The plain truth is there!
God’s people have indeed experienced gennao (Greek) or begotten, which is the more logical meaning, but they have yet to experience the fullness of the new life God has so graciously granted to them. If the Spirit of God dwells within you, you are a new creature in Christ. You now have the privilege of addressing Almighty God as “Father,” for you are begotten of Him. Yes, begotten, but not yet born.
Surely, we’ll be able to do more than fly when we are born again into the family of God. For more on this subject, download our FREE booklet BORN FROM ABOVE OR BORN AGAIN.
