The high holy day, the Feast of Firstfruits or Pentecost, carries significant messages for the world. The coming of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, the birthday of the church, Christ being the firstfruit of the resurrection and the saints will also be resurrected in like manner and so on.
One of the misunderstood beliefs of most Christians is that God is trying to save the world now. The Feast of Firsfruits or Pentecost tells us about the firstfruits of God’s harvest, the church now, but many Christians have missed this meaning totally. If Christians were following God’s annual Sabbaths or holy days outlined in Leviticus 23 – Passover-Days of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Firstfruits or Pentecost, the Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement and the Feast of Tabernacles/Last Great Day – they would see clearly in them God’s redemptive plan for humanity. They would grasp the fact that the plan doesn’t call for Him trying to save the whole world now, as widely believed.
When churches, evangelists, pastors, and bishops confine people to “hell” because they are not accepting Jesus Christ and Lord and Saviour, it reveals their lack of understanding on how God intends to redeem humanity. Surely God is calling many to repentance, but how many are truly responding, and why not?
What about the billions who have died and never heard the name Jesus Christ, the ONLY name by which one can be saved? Or, even the Muslim, Hindu, and the Jews, who have rejected Jesus Christ as VERY God and Lord and Saviour? Of course, many unbiblical suppositions are made to show how God will grant them salvation.
The Feast of Firstfruits or Pentecost carries a very critical message in this regard. The message is all there in the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 15. Verse 20 reveals, “Christ is now risen from the dead and become the firstfruits of those who are sleeping (the dead).” In other words, he has become the first of those to be resurrected.
Verse 23, “Every man in his own order. Christ the firstfruits and afterwards they that are Christ’s at his coming.” There will be an order of events for our change to eternal life. That’s why Rev. 20:5 can talk about “the first resurrection.” Verse 6 says
“Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection on such the second death has no power…” This is telling us there is a first resurrection. If there’s a first, there must be a second resurrection, and even a third.
Daniel 12: 2 can tell us about “many that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to everlasting shame and contempt.” John 5:28 says the same thing about more than one resurrection.
From these passages, we can deduce that God has everything well planned on how He will redeem humanity. To the contrary, God and Satan the Devil are not in a battle to “gain souls.” Satan is, but that’s not God’s way of accomplishing His plan. “Many are called, few are chosen.” He’s calling many to repentance and if YOU are that person and you reject that call NOW, you are staring in the lake of fire that burns with brimstone. On the other hand, there are many whom He did not call and they have died, and there are some whom He will not call in this life who are alive today. Eventually, everyone will get a call, either now or when they come up in a future resurrection to be taught the true ways of God. If they reject God then, the lake of fire will be awaiting them.
The Pentecost message reminds those whom God is calling now that we are going to be the first or the firstfruits of this great harvest of humanity in the coming Kingdom of God.
