The race for equality and justice

There are many ills in our world today. We need a solution!

For too long, our world is longing for equity and justice which are becoming like an elusive dream. Our children and grandchildren are destined to inherit a world that will still be searching for justice and peace, a world that does not know right from wrong anymore, a world that is heading somewhere, but doesn’t know where it’s going. The unwanted reward is utter confusion that escalates and manifests in social unrest, and endless cries for a solution.

How should we, as Christians, respond to the current wave of social unrest, particularly with the killing of African American George Floyd, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a few days ago? Should Christians or the church join the protests to speak out against what appears to be a trend in the killing of black American males, a number of whom have died under questionable circumstances over the years? Should Christians let their voices be heard everywhere that this is wrong, it is racial injustice, and it must be stopped once and for all? Or, should Christians do what they have been called to do as Christians to spread the message of hope that Jesus Christ is the only one with the solution. “The way to peace they have not known,” says Romans 3:17. Our world will continue to breed social unrest; racial injustice, racism, murder, war, and all the other ills are fallouts of our fallen world whose god is Satan the Devil.

One cannot help but empathise and grieve with those who have lost their lives violently, especially under the hands of those who were supposed to be protecting them. The pain becomes unbearable and has resulted in people taking to the streets. Obviously, the United States has a problem with the killing of young black males by the police; when the cases begin to pile up, there is a problem.

Some argue it’s part of the inequities in the system that have been building since the days of slavery. To deny these inequities is to hide your face in the sand and pretend they don’t exist. There could be more than one reasons why these young men lost their lives the way they did. However, years of racial discrimination, injustice and oppression make it difficult to arrive at any other conclusion that these deaths are racially motivated.

Nevertheless, the question about the Christian’s response, especially those of African descent, remains. There are some people of African descent who see the Holy Bible as being responsible for years of enslavement, and subsequently modern day racism. They feel the Bible supports slavery. The truth is anyone can use the Bible to support their own cause; because unscrupulous men use the Bible to perpetuate their evil intentions, does not mean that the Bible is wrong or supports slavery. The Bible warns “The heart is deceitful above all things,  and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jerm. 17:9.

We have a duty to search for truth rather than promoting a lie. If we keep promoting untruths after a while they are accepted as truth! So, in their thinking, how could anyone in their right mind accept such a book, not to mention the God of the Bible? This is where the challenge becomes more formidable for some to see any other solution but taking to the streets to let their voices be heard. Do we truly believe this action is going to solve the problem of racism, racial injustice and the other ills of society? That’s another elusive dream! Isa. 59.4 reminds us, “And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.”

The Holy Bible, which seems to be heading for the shelf of hate literature nowadays, predicts some stark truth of what will happen before the return of Jesus Christ. Christians have been warned about this and could get caught up in activities incompatible with scripture, if they don’t heed the call. 1 John 5: 19 tells us, “…the whole world lies in wickedness.” Racism is evil; it’s against what the Creator stands for. He created all peoples, no matter the colour or race. The Bible warns in the last days “dangerous times” shall come upon humanity! 2 Tim. 3: 1-5. What we see unfolding today is the tip of the iceberg of what the Bible says is to come! Christians better know their place and what is their role as a Christian.

Christians have to stand up for truth. Christians have to come out of this world. Jesus Christ said he was “not of this world,” neither can we be. “Come out of her, my people,” the Bible warns. If Christians get caught up in the ways of this world, we would have been defeating our calling. God MUST be our number one priority, and if we accept that, then our duty MUST be to spread the life-saving gospel of Jesus Christ and His coming kingdom, which is the only means of solving this problem of injustice. “Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity,” Psalm 98.9.

Certainly, you can acknowledge and talk about the racial inequities and other ills facing our society, but our focus MUST be on Jesus Christ. Our passion MUST be on our calling. The reality is no matter what the protest achieves, there will still be inequities, racism and racial injustice because we live in a fallen world. There’s nothing wrong with empathizing with those who are feeling the pain, but we need to pray and fast for Jesus Christ to return soon to solve society’s ills. He’s the solution to society’s ills! Isa. 11:4, “But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.” For more on this subject, download FREE our pamphlet, EVIDENCE OF THE END TIMES.
