If you are among the millions of people who believe that the calendar year 2025 (God’s New Year or Sacred Year begins March 30, this year), will be better for you, think again!
If some people’s memory serves them well, they can recall what their expectations were like, for say, the beginning of the past five individual years. It’s almost a certainty that the common denominator in the expectations of those years would have been quite similar to those, this year. There’s always that hope that your life and the desires of your heart will be different than in previous years. What’s the reality though?
First, rule out New Year’s resolutions because they don’t work, according to the experts. They were merely practiced in ancient Mesopotamia to appease the gods or Janus, particularly the god of beginnings (New Year) and who the month of January was named after. Second, there’s hardly anything behind these resolutions; they fail because of a lack of planning, motivation, and setting unrealistic goals.
Sad to say, but 2025 in all probability is not going to make your situation much better. Individual actions, ongoing trends, and global events, which are beyond our control, are factors that will have an impact on our lives. Waging wars and conflicts, economic turmoil, the unpredictable impact of natural disasters, political instability, environmental fallouts, and social issues, will determine what would be your achievement by December 31. If one should examine each of these factors, the negatives that could arise from them, in all likelihood will outweigh the positives. This trend has gone unabated perhaps for decades, despite the utterances of governments to reassure its citizens that better days are ahead.
What are the choices facing us as we stare down the walls of hopelessness with a new calendar year that lays before us? Think again! The reality is that the situation for the average person won’t get any better, and if it does, it’s going to be minimal; in other words, don’t expect revolutionary changes in the lives of the vast majority of people.
The answer to the world’s problems and all of us lies in only Jesus, the Christ, and His coming kingdom. All human endeavours from the dawn of civilization have failed and will continue to fail until the blowing of the Seventh Trumpet, signaling the end of human history, the end of human governments, and the establishment of the kingdom/government of the Almighty God.
Rev. 11: 15. Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” 16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying: “We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, Because You have taken Your great power and reigned. 18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth.”
This scripture informs us of the real hope that is coming, not the elusive hope of our time and each year that comes and goes. This is the only true hope that the Word of God, which is truth, John 17:17, promises. 1 Cor. 15:19 tells us, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” It’s no wonder we have so many miserable, hopeless, and frustrated people around – the same ones who perhaps return each year to set goals they cannot achieve, not knowing, or seeking to know that the real hope lies in the one God, who is ever faithful, merciful, and truthful.
Romans 5:3-5: “We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” This scripture tells us when we go through trials or sufferings, it’s for a reason and God allows that because He knows best, as our Creator, and our tough experiences are going to lead us to hold on to the true hope that lies in the risen Christ. Not the hope of this world which is like vapour. James 4: 13, “ Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.”
The Great God, YAHWEH, is calling many people today. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name,” John 1:12. When He calls you, don’t hesitate, act on His call so you can come to a full knowledge of His marvelous plans for humanity–a plan with great hope, despite the shortcomings of a dying civilization.
