Proverbs 3 : 5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.“
Proverbs 3 : 9-10 “Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Our loving God created us with the ability to make our own decisions. He allows us to choose how we will live and whom we will follow. He also provides all the information we need to make wise decisions to follow the path to eternal life.
Do you trust God?
Do you believe His Word is truth?
These are important questions to ask yourself as you grow in maturity and set out on your path to independence. If the answer is yes, then you already know how wonderful that peace of mind feels. And you also know how much responsibility is attached to those beliefs. You are free to choose God (or not), but once you do, you cannot serve two gods. Our God is a jealous God (Ex. 20:5) and He requires your attention, dedication, and loyalty to Him alone. We also cannot benefit from God’s protection and guidance without reciprocating in the relationship.
So how do you show trust, acknowledgement, and honour to God? Through the ages, Christians have debated and complicated this subject. If you ask me, the answer is very simple. (Not easy to do, but very easy to identify and work toward).
- Know God’s Word (and what He expects of you)
- Have gratitude for all that He does in your life (whether you like it or not)
- Do not stray from God’s instruction (you may think you know better, but that’s a very slippery slope)
- Emulate Him in all that you say and do
None of us are perfect in our pursuit of godliness, but trust Him when He tells you that if you do these things He will richly bless you. Be loyal to Him and show him with your actions that this relationship is important to you. Spend time with Him in prayer, praise and study of His Word. Consider Him first when you have increase and be generous with Him. Give Him honour above all other things in your life and you will see what He can do!
