King David taught us that we should meditate on God’s Law …
Psalms_119:97 Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.
David goes on to say…
Psa_119:163 I hate and abhor lying, But I love Your law.
I recall in a movie, hearing a US military “Honor Code” Oath …
We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does. Furthermore, I resolve to do my duty and to live honorably, (so help me God).
It is an impressive thing to see someone stand up and tell the truth … when it might hurt their pride or their future – because HONOUR demands it! … Then there are other movies (such as “A Few Good Men”) that show that successful officers lie “frequently”.
I recently started watching the TV series “Suits” about a top legal firm in New York (even though the 9 seasons were filmed in Toronto). I thought it would be a “Perry Mason”- like show where lawyers of “integrity” used their brilliant legal minds to rescue clients. The series was “entertaining” … but the “life lessons” were horrible as we saw in almost every show…
- Lawyers lying to clients, judges, adversaries, friends & family
- Lawyers cheating to win
- Lawyers who had little regard for ethics, or honor.
The show taught that lies for your job or your family was better than the truth – and in the fiction of TV – story lines show many reasons why lying, stealing, assault, betraying, and even murder can be “justified” in today’s world. The people willing to do this evil … are the “winners”, and the episodes wrap up nicely with them “getting away” with it.
Today, our “celebrity obsessed culture” cannot get enough of the Johnny Depp & Amber Heard trial … a glimpse “behind the curtain” of the Lifestyle of the Rich & Famous … the open drug & alcohol abuse, the violent tempers and smashing things. Can you tell which of these professional actors are lying? Are they both lying?
A generation ago, we had examples (like Martin Luther King) quoting scripture to seek society to change our ways …
Amo_5:24 But let justice run down like water, And righteousness like a mighty stream!
As in Ezekiel’s time, there are some “today” who hate the evil …
Eze_9:4 and the LORD said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it.”
Let us pray for the Kingdom of God to come, so that the whole world can be taught God’s Laws & His ways … which are the ways to TRUE happiness.
Here is our booklet on the 10 Commandments … the simple path to loving God & loving fellowman.
